Cry Wolf

qaswedfrt's ratings: 6/10
Starring: Julian Morris, Lindy Booth, Jon Bon Jovi, Kristy Wu
Running time: 90mins

Watched this movie on my lappy (cause I downloaded it, obviously) and it wasn't that bad, considering that I watched it on my lappy.

Basically a thrilling movie about a few high school friends playing a game about lying. Two of them got so into the game and decided to spread a rumour through school email about a serial killer that strikes on a full moon, and ya, in the email they mentioned about the killer coming to their school to kill students on full moon. They thought it was just a prank but...

muahahahahahhahaahahah

.

.

.

Good twisting at the end, and I mean the end. It's never the end until the screen goes blank. Acting skills of those students weren't that good actually, and I didn't know Bon Jovi was in the movie even though he played quite a significant role. Actually there's nothing wrong with his acting, it's just that I don't know how he looks like, and I still don't.

Watch it. But since it's not showing anymore in the cinemas (in Melbourne at least) you know I wasn't asking you to pay anything more than S$9 for this show...

There's nothing much to say about really cause it's been like a three weeks since I watched it. One line from the movie that keeps repeating in my mind though is 'avoid Suspicion, manipulate your friends, eliminate your enemies'. Too bad that's about all that I can clearly remember. HAHA. But I guess no one comes here anyway, I'm just trying to slowly build up a libray of reviews on the movies I've watched. So, ya, I watched Cry Wolf and this is the 'review'. Lalalaa...

Mission: Impossible III

qaswedfrt's rating: 8/10
Starring: Tom Cruise, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Ving Rhames, Laurence Fishburne, Billy Crudup (and Maggie Q)
Running Time: 126 minutes

Poof! IMF agent Ether Hunt is out for another mission! This mission came out of nowhere, and you might feel cheated. We were not revealed what they thing they're after do.

And that's kinda lame... Basically, Hunt went to the steal that thing, called the Rabbit Foot, to save his (just wedded) wife's live.

I bet the scriptwriter was just lazy about Rabbit Foot. It's like writing a movie about a mission but not having a thing that is actually worth the mission. (It's hard to say. I'm actually stuck at this sentence for nearly half an hour.)

It could had been called something more impressive like MC135 or something along that line; codes that we don't understand seems much professional and are so much better than Rabbit Foot.

Anyway, it's more of a mission to save his wife instead of saving the world. Not a great idea.

But actually the movie is better than what I've expected it to be!

Tom Cruise is as good as ever. Credits to him. He's also the producer by the way. There was constant action. This is truely an action-packed movie. Non-stop. Well, there's a few pauses for you to catch your breathe cause it's really nerve-breaking. Like, I could still feel my chest pumping after watching all the credits and walked for another two minutes.

But anyway, there's one or two touching sences. With the right soundtrack and motion effects, it was really tear-tearing. I just made that word up, something like nerve-breaking. =x

If you're into photography, there's two scenes that I'm impressed too. Not that I'm a guru in photography or what, but it's just good to me. Long one-shot scence is always good to me. It shows how good the camera-men are. One was when Hunt and his black mate was at the top of a Shanghai building, and the other one was when Hunt was running like mad to try to find the Rabbit Foot, yes, the Rabbit Foot. How anti-climax can that name be~

And this movie really live up to the names of Hollywood Motion Pictures. The mission crossed four countries, USA, Italy(it's actually the Vatican city), Germany(Berlin) and China (Shanghai). And of course as expected, Shanghai was the worse looking city of all. Obviously we chinese know that Shanghai is very western-influenced. But the director has his reason in choosing the more village-side of Shanghai. Maybe it was to say that the villian wanted low-key hideout, or maybe he just can't get any permit to film the movie in some modern buildings. Anyway, the impression that China is still way under-developed is there, even with the Shanghai tower.

Also, chinese are are being filmed as stupid. I have to admit mandrain sounds funny after almost 90min of English with US-accent. But still, if that wasn't the message they're trying to convey, surely there are ways to film the Shanghai part differently.

Having said all these, the movie had a giant twist at the end! That's all I'm going to say so that there's still reason for you to watch it...

But again... haha... typical Hollywood Movie. Some illogical things can pop up out of nowhere. And the good guys... will... ya... and the villians... you know the ending. But we can see those traditional shooting scenes taking a change. Heros can be shot too, but villians, if not the biggest one, are still an easy target.

My predictions? This movie might be amongst the best nominees for action-movie, simply because it's very hollywood and it might make those US rednecks judges happy by having chinese being filmed as idiots. I'm contridicting myself, it's still a nice movie, when you consider it an action, Hollywood movie of course. Maybe I've just focused too much on the bads rather than the goods so that this good movie won't turn out to be too good for my friends who haven't watch it. Lolz. Maybe I'm just human, bad things have a deeper impression rather than the good ones.

Final Destination 3

qaswedfrt's ratings: 6/10
Starring: Ryan Merriman, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Texas Battle, Gina Holden, Dustin Milligan
Running time: 89mins

Well, watching FD 3 last Monday in cinema. Not a movie too bad though.

Typical FD style. There was a ride, which in the case we can see from the poster that it's a roller coaster ride, one person saw the accident before the ride started, made a fuss about it, some people got off the ride, and the accident happened. And of course, those who got off, died one by one, according to some pattern.

The computer affects weren't good. Like, there was a guy who was killed by gym equipment. The bars closed in his head from both sides and his head went ssssssmmmmmaaaaaaaaasssssssshhhhhheeeeeddd.

Ok, the word is smash. But anyway, don't know why, it just look fake. Gross, but because we don't see people's head getting smash that often, if ever.

Out of all the incidents, only one impressed me... That's the one at the factory. Watch it for yourself. It's exciting... Hehehe

The first instalment was the best. Maybe because back then it was a new idea, and so the excitement is there. Not recommended for people who watched any of the three episodes.

What makes FD3 different from FD and FD2 is...

MARY ELIZABETH WINSTEAD!!!

Oh what a beauty. She's actually the main character in the movie lo! Stupid Australian cinemas put that guy's name (I don't even know, cause I don't care) as the featured actor.

Her name is the top of the list at the credits damnit!

Back to Mary. She's the type of girl that I will just fall and faint onto the ground if I see in real life. Like asian and caucasian mixed. But she's actually pure American. Check out Sky High too. She's actually the reason why I wanna to watch FD3.

Anyway, bad computer effects. Typical FD storyline, not blaming them - it's FD, but, at least make those deaths exciting enough and have better effects. Might be nominated for Gloden Globes, but definitely not a prize winning movie. Watch it to support Mary Elizabeth Winstead!

Official DVD will out on 25th.

The Goblet of Fire, The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe

This blog needs some reviving.

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire pretty much sucked. In fact, it sucked so much, well, I think it's a disgrace to the Harry Potter movie franchise. This movie, sadly, didn't do justice to what I thought was the best book of the Harry Potter series.

It's been quite ago since I watched the movie, and being a sucky movie that's not worth any of the 7 bucks I've spent, I only have a vague impression left in my mind. But do allow me to briefly explain why it sucked.

Firstly, it wasn't even engaging nor impressive! I think the director should have made the movie more interesting for viewer who have read the book. Chris Colombus managed this by having wow Quidditch in the first and second movie. Alfonso Cauron just blew me away with his stylishly dark sequel. Pity this director failed to breathe any life to this movie, that even the superb CGI can't save it.

Secondly, Dumbledore sucked big time. This dumbledoraemon actor failed terribly in portraying the fatherly image. Dumbledore would never have strangled anyone, or yelled or shout. HE IS A SIAO GINAH DUMBLEDORAEMON IN THE MOVIE! I cannot stand him!

Thirdly, I felt that Patrick Doyle's soundtrack for the movie was a major letdown. Not really his fault anyway, cos few can surpass John Williams' standard set for the previous 3 movies. Patrick's score didn't quite make the mark and was unable to produce any catchy tunes.

However, I have to strongly encourage all advocates of racial harmony not to give this movie a miss. There's nothing more politically correct, than having Indians and Chinese attending balls in saris and cheongsams respectively.

Doh, enough of Hairier Potty. Introducing...

Finally catched in Malaysia Truly Cheapo! Wonder how come Singaporeans so loser-ish, release 2 weeks so late.

CHRONICLES OF NARNIA IS SO COOL CAN OR NOT?! *faints*

This is easily one of my favourite movies of all time! Not very easily will I like a movie as my favourite, as my favourite movie has to have depth and meaning, and must truly touch me. Narnia succeeded in these.

Why it rocked? Firstly, the movie (as well as the book) is a Christian parable, giving the movie its depth and meaning. For me, it's like watching a fable bloodless version of Passion of the Christ (which I watched too!). The movie was so sad lo, nearly wanted to cry when I see the symbolism of Jesus' sacrifice.

Secondly, the superb cast! Ahdoi! Peter Pevensie is so SHUAI! Lucy Penvensie is so adorable (makes me wanna cry whenever she cries)! Liam Neeson is probably the only candidate fit for the voicing of the majestic Aslan (Aslan is turkish for Lion). Tilda Swinton did the most amazing job as the White Witch! She's so cold and evil. And the beavers are so CUTE!

Thirdly, the movie is such a beholding spectacle. The director made the movie so stylish. Stylishly funny, and stylishly touching too. Really wanted to cry at the end when they were crowned kings and queens. =(

Fourthly, I just loved the entire soundtrack! Especially loved the lullaby played by Mr Tumnus. And the other songs that vaguely remind me of March of the Penguins soundtrack. Love it love it love it!

WANNA WATCH IT AGAIN!

Do stay a lil while after the credits too, as they'll be an extra scene of Lucy and Professor Kirke.

I LOVE CHRONICLES OF NARNIA!

Malaysian TV Channels

Isn't it nice for Malaysians to post something about Malaysia in the first post? This post is written by Arthur in his blog.

" Tee Vee Tee Gah

I would like to commend the Malaysian channels (namely TV3 and 8TV) for airing so many shows before Singapore's Mediacorp does.

(Likewise for Malaysia's Media Authority for releasing most movies in conjunction with their release in the US. Chicken Little was released in Malaysia on Nov 3rd; Singapore - a month later Dec 1st. Chronicles of Narnia will screen on Dec 8th in Malaysia; Singapore Dec 22nd. And mind you, Narnia is a blockbuster!)

Back to Malaysian channels... Shows like The OC and One Tree Hill are way advanced in Malaysia than it is in Singapore (but not like I watch them anyway). And then, there's great shows that we might never get to see in Singapore, like Futurama and Queer Eye for the Straight Guy.

Another great thing? They don't feature retards in their drama serials, unlike Mediacorp.

Okay, good part's over. Now, to diss these Malaysian channels.

Actually, like so what if shows are aired earlier in Malaysia? Big deal right?

YES! IT'S NO BIG FREAKING FAT HAIRY DEAL! COS MALAYSIA'S FREAKIN' CENSOR POLICY SUCKS BIG TIME ANYWAY!

Oh my goodness! Watching shows on Malayian channels can be freakin' annoying, thanks to Malaysia's censor policy. They censor everything!

EVERYTHING!I was just watching Desperate Housewives - Sorting the Dirty Laundry, and I was amazed and puzzled at why they would even want to air this series anyway. The censor board freaking censored every sexual content in the show, which basically leaves the audiences nothing left to watch, except the murder case that no one really cares anyway.

I remembered Bree saying "Rex cries everytime after he ejaculates", and that was totally bleeped out. So I guess other Malaysian audiences like me are freaking pissed for missing out those juicy bits that are really the essence of the whole show, unless they know how to lip read.

You know, I don't even think the Malaysian audiences even know the existence of Gabrielle's affair with the gardener. Hell, I don't even think that the gardener even appeared in the Malaysian version of Desperate Housewives.

I wonder how series like The OC even get to survive, cos what's probably left of the whole series after coming out from the censorship board, would only be stuff like kids talking about homework and some trivial family issues. And that's like what? 15 minutes an episode?

Oh, another thing. I don't get why TV1 and TV2 constantly air concerts. The channels are all about concerts and concerts and concerts, 24/7. Not like it's MTV concerts or Good Charlotte Live or anything. Sheesh, not even Richard Clayderman Live! But MALAY MALAY MALAY MALAY MALAY MALAY concerts! And I don't know where they get so many malay songs from!

It's like, hey it's Hari Raya! Let's sing Malay songs. And then, when Hari Raya is over, they go Hey, let's sing for next year's Hari Raya. If not, we can always translate those freaking techno Chinese New Year crap into Malay!

I don't get it why they have to do all such measures. So what if Malaysia is a Muslim country? I mean, there are a fair share of Muslim TV viewers in Singapore, and it's not like they get really offended by what's aired on TV. On the contrary, I think they pretty much enjoy it.

What the Malaysian government should learn is to allow TV viewers to watch shows on TV with their own discretion. Surely, the government cannot restrict its people in their own ways right? I mean, what people might not get on TV, for example, they can get it so easily from the net. So what's the point right?

To pave way for a more mature society, I believe that the government should give the people the right to choose. If they feel offended by anything on TV, they can always choose not to view it. It's all about viewer's choices.

Okay, I don't wanna be all preachy, cos I can't preach, and preaching reminds me of GP. But sheesh, the censorship thingy is getting too ridiculous.

P/S: This is not a racist/country-ist post.

Post update: After watching Spiderman, I realised that the word "FREAK" is censored too."
